Most Visually Impaired Americans Don 8217 T Wear Needed Glasses Or Contacts
While most Americans see well, about 14 million are visually impaired, according to a National Institutes of Health NIH study. Of those, more than 11 million have an uncorrected condition, such as nearsightedness, that could be treated with eyeglasses or contact lenses. 8220;This is the first national survey on vision since the mid-1970s, and it confirms that uncorrected visual impairment is a major public health problem, 8221; says Elias A. 8220;The good news is that we now have information on the extent of visual impairment in the United States that will be available to policymakers as they seek to address health care issues at the local, state and national levels. 8221; The study, published in the May 10 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, also concludes that teenagers, people with diabetes, Hispanics and...

Bird Flu: H5n1 Influenza Status Briefing Natural Protection
The Bird Flu has a defined area of infection and has found a host that has kept it alive for millenniums. Pigs are in the mutation chain as the virus transitions to people. The next bird flu step could be an overnite pandemic or a wimpering gasp of disappearance. The virus H5N1, has a few similarities with the Spanish flu of 1918 that resulted in one of the largest pandemics in the last 200 years. Both of these contagious outbreaks cause high fever, lower respiratory tract failure symptoms, prostration, myalgias, and a postviral weakness that could last up to 6 weeks. Twenty-four hour access channels have warned of a coming pandemic that may arrive in the form of H5N1 avian influenza, more commonly referred to as bird flu . The market for poultry products has decreased internationally because of a lack of consumer confidence in a...

Cheese Making Through The Ages
The many different types of cheeses available mean there is something to suit every taste. It is generally believed that cheese was first made in the Middle East. Legend has it that a nomadic Arab made cheese by accident when a saddlebag filled with milk fermented due to the hot sun and the galloping movement of his horse. Early cheeses were not the solid products we eat today. They were simple curds and whey, like what Little Miss Muffet ate. The curd is the solid part while the whey is liquid. Workmen making cheese are depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphics. In ancient times, the whey was eaten immediately while the curd was salted or dried for preservation. The Roman Legion helped spread the art of cheesemaking throughout Europe and England. The monasteries and feudal estates of Europe made great improvements in cheesemaking during...

Using A Stun Gun Taser For Self Protection
A stun gun taser is a relatively inexpensive, convenient and powerful way to ward off attackers. The sight and sound of a stun gun taser going off is usually enough to scare an attacker away. Stun gun tasers repel your attacker with high voltage yet low amperage shock. You cannot be shocked even if you are touching the attacker. A stun gun taser looks like a pistol but uses compressed air to fire two darts that trail electric cable back to the handset. When the darts strike, a five-second 50,000-volt charge is released down the cable, causing the suspect s muscles to contract uncontrollably. Electrical signals -Taser waves or T-Waves - overpower the body s normal electrical signals, temporarily confusing the nervous system. A laser helps target the suspect and the Taser works at ranges up to 21 feet. Stun gun tasers come in...

Mind Games!

What was a simple drip in your pool of thoughts, quickly turned into an ocean of tidal waves rolling into each, over and over again. This is what it feels like to not have positive control over your mind. Our minds often repeat hurtful thoughts or scenarios over and over, even when we d much rather let them go. If you start really listening to your inner voice, you are probably dwelling on the past, remembering how someone may have let you down, or how much anger you still hold back from being hurt. If you fear the challenges that are waiting for you, or you are ashamed at where you are now in your life as compared to where you had planned on being, these fears will definitely be in line to play the mind game on you. All of these insecure...

Gum Infections, dental Infections Was Directly Related To The Parient S Calcium Metabolism
The surprise was the number of systemic body changes found to take place. Among them were the considerable amount of absorption of bone; the occurrence or non-occurrence of dental caries cavities ; changes in the uric acid level; and, in addition, changes in the blood and saliva of the ionic calcium level, and its urea nitrogen content. In time it became apparent the presence or absence of of gum infections was directly related to the patient s calcium metabolism. When the ionic level of calcium in the blood was higher than normal, the supporting gum and bone tended to be absorbed away more easily in the presence of irritation. At the same time, studies of saliva revealed it to be more alkaline than usual when periodontal disease was active. Another big surprise occurred when the contents of the pus pockets were found to be very...
